Kaleo Ministry

miranda and I having a little break from an all nighter + an essay
proud winners of the cleanest room for room check
we are one cool room 309! -my bribe sure worked:)

Praise God for he is good!

Hey everybody, its me again.
So this week has been quite the experience. We had a full week of prayer. Basically one person had to be in the prayer room for an hour no matter what, and if the person that is scheduled after you doesn't show up, you have to stay in the room until someone relieves you. It was a pretty wondrous experience, and I am so happy to have been apart of the experience. I have never done anything like it,  or felt so close to God in my prayers. TIME FLEW BY ...seriously such an amazing experience.

I was able to go to God like he was right beside me responding to me. Talking to him about everything, worries, friends, family, praise, thanksgiving, blessings, confusions. IT WAS AMAZING. I wish we could do it more often, but we are doing it for sure next year so I am so pumped about this. However that doesn't mean I have to wait until another 24/7 week of prayer to talk to God like I was.

On top of praying by myself in the room, we could also pray with partners so I got to pray with Shannon, and also got to pray with Miranda a couple of times. It was really cool to hear each others prayers, encourage each other, and draw things to decorate the room that honor God or are our thoughts. It was soo cool seeing different things in the room to read each day, and also writing on the sheets of paper that were in front of each Kaleo student to bless and encourage their walk with God.

I could finally put faith in my prayers, going to God in prayer felt so real, it felt genuine, it was unimaginable. God blessed me with this week for sure. It was everything I wanted AND MORE!

So besides such an encouraging week heres some other highlights but ill keep it to a minimum.

Got a timmyho's card in the mail from my grandparents THANKS GUYS AGAIN!, 007 tuesday night with a bunch of kaleo students playing pranks and such after, tried out a long board OMGOSH I SO WANNA GET ONE!, went on a bike ride around crofton, had some amazing convo's this week, best shooting stars while i was out on the field alone...crazy story about the shooting stars btw so if you wanna know just send me an email:D pretty wild!
led chapel so i did it on praying constantly. it actually went really well even though i was nervous. just got them to split into groups reading a bible verse ... discussing it in groups then in the big group...and to finish it up making prayer bracelets to remind you each time you look at it to pray to God.
hung out by a large fire, saw some raccoons, had a bad experience with coffee and a monster:D  went ice skating with youth group...GOD HUMBLED ME - kids told me to show them what I got for ice skating....took the challenge and totally face first to ice...man what a funny humbling experience LOL! it was really funny there were some new kids and they instantly were so open to me. It was really interesting, and taught me to really be careful around kids, they are always watching, especially when they like you! What a blessing kids are! Got outta bed one day and my legs were fast asleep and i feel right on my butt...man was that weird LOL. reading down by the dock and saw 7 otters right in front of me up on the dock, open dorms so guys could be in our rooms and see them, church, lunch with the people that drive me to lunch, watched the gray cup, montreal lost:( , party at phil's and joels new house, got taught some brazilian dance moves:) and chilling with ppl there.

it was an incredible week, I learned to much, I drew closer to God, I asked questions, I got prayed for, We all supported each other!

Please continually pray for my family in cali, for friends in Taiwan, for christmas protection for each Kaleo student, for healing.

much love
i miss all of you
xoxo

Kaleo Ministry

Philippians 2:8

And being found in appearance as a man,
      he humbled himself
      and became obedient to death—
         even death on a cross!

How are you all doing this week?! God has definitely blessed me this week, with a week of rest and catch up, a week to get closer to some of the students here, and a week of fun. Thank YOU LORD!
Here's all that I did this reading break!
Monday: Woke up at 6:40 and walked to the ferries with Joel, Miranda, and Auzzie Phil to go to Saltspring. This is an Island like 10ish minutes away from Crofton (where I live). Off of the ferry, we took the bus over to Ganges and spent our day there. Just going into shops and looking around, buying some awesome tea, eating food I took from the kitchen (with permission), and finding cool spots to sit and have some laughs/play cards around the water. That night we got everyone who had not left for reading break together and went out for Boston Pizza with the staff..that was sweet too!
Tuesday: I slept away this day...I was so tired from the whole year I just slept away the day. Got up to eat lunch and do dishes and then slept until supper...woh eh?
Wednesday: Homework basically all day, had a tea break in Crofton with Miranda and Auzzie Phil.
Thursday: Homework , had a sweet talk with Miranda on the dock (it was really wavy, bright outside and cold!, chilled in my room with Jen and Jordanna and Mirmir, all the Kaleo students went to a movie so I picked up a student from the ferries with Miranda and auzzie Phil...I drove all the way back..i know illegal but AWeSOME! made some nanimo squares with everyone who didnt go to the movies..that was sweet! I LOVE BAKING!
Friday: Jim Badke's last class. Presented our camp projects. I cleaned tree house mats for 2 hours for QFX hours for Matt Flemming. I need 6 more hours of service. Really had to be patient with the youth group, the girls were not paying attention at all, and devotional that I was leading for the first time did not go so well:( Good talks with people I need to catch up with in Kaleo. Bed early:)
Saturday: Worked on paper all day, finished it and was proud of it by 3:30 am sunday morning. Had lunch with Erin from kaleo because we both dont like chili so we ate food from our rooms. Got Auzzie Phil in the face with whip cream...ended up getting maple syrup in my face:P Had girls night for kaleo, chocolate fondu and Pride and Prejudice:) TALKED TO MARK ON SKYPE..it was so fun and he got to meet a lot of kaleo ppl!
Sunday: Was in sunday school for church, was the first person to pray in the prayer room for the 24/7 week of prayer. Went to walmart for toothpaste, and some stuff to fill with my rooms child christmas box, and finished of the night with timmy hos and some fun conversation and music!

Life is going pretty well these days, work is getting done, friendships are becoming closer, the weather is good and bad, I have a whole week to learn about God and hear/talk to him in our 24/7 week of prayer this coming week. Our opening hour I signed up to spend 1 hour with Miranda. It was amazing, she was late because of Church so i got half an hour to myself. It was so amazing, there are pictures on the walls of all the kaleo students, paper and pens to draw and write, nice chairs by the windows overlooking the ocean and just such a great time. I didn't have even enough time to go through 1/4th of the people I need to be praying for. Time goes so fast, it is so amazing how you can become so energetic to pray to the lord and be able to talk to him.

This is going to be quite the experience and know I am praying for all of you!
Thanks for your daily prayers!

My only prayer request I would like you all to focus on this week is my family (Uncle Bruce, Aunt Jan, Ben, Allison, and Donovan) -they lost everything to a forest fire that swept through 40 some houses and campus buildings that my Uncle teaches at. Everything was destroyed. This hit me pretty hard, so just pray for the strength they need for overcoming this horrible situation, and that they will see God out of this terrible occurrence.

As always, Keep smiling

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
       bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart

Proverbs 3:3

So this was the verse in Proverbs that I wrote my paper on. Which I completed yesturday (saturday) ....wow does it feel good to hand in something!

So I'd just like to tell you where I am at right now. I feel that God is challenging me with the topic of Joy. This may seem weird to some of you, because I am such a happy person, but currently I feel that I am questioning why I am, and discovering when I need to work on being joyful...and how sometimes even when I am down to pursue Joy in life in all I do.
So currently I am working on this trait, and it's becoming harder as I become more and more tired. I am getting enough sleep, I am just getting a little tired of the current situation. I love the people here, its just every now and again your own space and family time is really needed. I hope you all understand! So please pray for me!

So on a lighter side here's what I have been up to this week:
Monday- I went caving...which was my first time ever! It was really sweet! I got to climb up a small waterfall, go in small cracks, and see spiders on the roof which i freaked out about! AHHHH! We finished off that dirty day at a pool for 1 hour and a half.
Tuesday-Went down town and talked to the homeless. This was an amazing experience! At first I was really nervous, but it ended up being an amazing time. We had half of the kaleo kids with us, and we separated into three groups and walked around in search of some conversation. That was our ultimate goal to just talk, but we did have some clothes and food in our back packs. We talked to two guys (since a new homeless shelter had just opened), but out on the street we found Black Velvet and one guy that didnt tell his name. It was really great to see them interested in talking to us, and after awhile the more quiter one felt a little more safe around us. It was a sweet time! After that we went home but saw the salmon run, so that was sweet! Kinda weird seeing some dead and some still working their way up stream....nature takes its turn.
Wednesday- Helped Daneille and Eric with chapel, and did a ton of hw. (All night!!)
Thursday- 1 hour of sleep, Camp Ministry class, hw, floor hockey staff vs kaleo for 2 hours they won 21 to 17 or smth like that.
Friday- hw, went to Miranda's youth group because mine was cancelled.
Saturday-Handed in my paper:), helped with the skyscraper, pancakes for supper YAY!, worked out:) and chilled with some mates!
Sunday- Went to church(they didn't need me to help with the kids so I was sad!), had a 2 hour nap, worked out, went to Jer's, Jesse's, Tom's and Aaron's church for youth group
now just writing my blog and chilling.

Prayer requests:
-for more perspective on my part
-to get over this homesickness hump
-For some people in Taiwan
-For my youth group and church
-for satey and accomplishment this reading break

miss you all!
email me when  you can

Kaleo Ministry

HeY hEy HEY!

Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

October of 2008 has come and gone, how scary for time does fly! 1 month and and like 22 days until Christmas...seriously where has this time gone?wow.

Thanks to everyone who has constantly kept me in their prayers and thoughts. Likewise..I am trying to do the same...as I am slowly working on remembering to pray ...I even have a prayer list beside my bed:) so please if you need prayer send me and email or post back and tell me what you want me to pray for!

This week has been nothing but Hermeneutics work and Spiritual formation papers. We had class with Merrill Dyck from Monday until Friday, and I can say I did have a few things stick in my head that I hope to use while trying to interpret the bible for the rest of my life. Very interesting class that's for sure...and man is the bible complex a lot of the time!
So here's what I did this week besides class and hw:
Monday-ultimate Frisbee against old Kaleo students (they came for a week to visit), chapel down by the beach with a camp fire, and scared one of the girls next door...lol it was hilarious:) no she does not hate Miranda and I.
Tuesday- A person came for chapel that has been doing missions trips in Cambodia, I learned a lot from her and got to talk with her for all of lunch. REALLY INTERESTING!
Wednesday-saw some deer:) and worked away at hw
Thursday- Heard some stories from old Kaleo's of where the are at now. God blessed my group by being able to pull together the project and focusing!
Friday- Group project worked really well (puppet show on 2nd Peter -so obviously Deborah made it a bit funny:D) went into Duncan and bought a hand puppet:) i will add pics of him next time:) and ill introduce him then too:)...got stuff for our Christmas child box, that Miranda and I are making.
Saturday- Worked in the Kitchen from 10am until 7:30 pm...I did a ton but had a fun time doing it! between 2-4 I was taking kids off the zip line ..so that was an enjoyable break. Tried to do homework until 3:30 am...didn't work so slept for 2 hours
Sunday- woke up at 5:30 and went into the kitchen to make everyone breakfast, we had a guest group here...so there was A LOT to make:) went to church -helped out with children's church, cleaned room (btw I changed around my room for the third time mom and dad lol its so me:P), did hw, supper and now going to get a London fog, have staff games night/kaleo game night, go back and work on my paper that I so stressed about, and then to bed.

That's my week:)
Youth was cancelled because of Halloween, but I didn't even trick-or-treat anyways:P Just stayed in like a good college student.

Prayer Requests:
1) On Tuesday I am going to go talk to people on the streets of Victoria. I have a few pairs of new socks to give out(cool idea the kaleo students are doing), and a sandwich. I am really nervous, and I just pray God gives me the words that I am supposed to say to these people. It is going to be quite the experience!
2) I am nervous to go caving tomorrow. Apparently we get into a pretty tight squeeze..and there are spiders around:O
3) for friends that are going through some hurts here in Kaleo and in Taiwan.
4) For pastor Ross (old pastor of peace portal)to stay strong
5)For my paper to form. I am really struggling with writing this paper:(
6)Also for my youth group, I didn't get to see them last week (because I was working), this week was cancelled because of halloween, and next week is cancelled too. I just pray that they are doing well and following God. I miss the kids a lot:)

I love you all and wish you all a happy month of November!

Much love,
as always KEEP SMILING
