Kaleo Ministry

Philippians 2:8

And being found in appearance as a man,
      he humbled himself
      and became obedient to death—
         even death on a cross!

How are you all doing this week?! God has definitely blessed me this week, with a week of rest and catch up, a week to get closer to some of the students here, and a week of fun. Thank YOU LORD!
Here's all that I did this reading break!
Monday: Woke up at 6:40 and walked to the ferries with Joel, Miranda, and Auzzie Phil to go to Saltspring. This is an Island like 10ish minutes away from Crofton (where I live). Off of the ferry, we took the bus over to Ganges and spent our day there. Just going into shops and looking around, buying some awesome tea, eating food I took from the kitchen (with permission), and finding cool spots to sit and have some laughs/play cards around the water. That night we got everyone who had not left for reading break together and went out for Boston Pizza with the staff..that was sweet too!
Tuesday: I slept away this day...I was so tired from the whole year I just slept away the day. Got up to eat lunch and do dishes and then slept until supper...woh eh?
Wednesday: Homework basically all day, had a tea break in Crofton with Miranda and Auzzie Phil.
Thursday: Homework , had a sweet talk with Miranda on the dock (it was really wavy, bright outside and cold!, chilled in my room with Jen and Jordanna and Mirmir, all the Kaleo students went to a movie so I picked up a student from the ferries with Miranda and auzzie Phil...I drove all the way back..i know illegal but AWeSOME! made some nanimo squares with everyone who didnt go to the movies..that was sweet! I LOVE BAKING!
Friday: Jim Badke's last class. Presented our camp projects. I cleaned tree house mats for 2 hours for QFX hours for Matt Flemming. I need 6 more hours of service. Really had to be patient with the youth group, the girls were not paying attention at all, and devotional that I was leading for the first time did not go so well:( Good talks with people I need to catch up with in Kaleo. Bed early:)
Saturday: Worked on paper all day, finished it and was proud of it by 3:30 am sunday morning. Had lunch with Erin from kaleo because we both dont like chili so we ate food from our rooms. Got Auzzie Phil in the face with whip cream...ended up getting maple syrup in my face:P Had girls night for kaleo, chocolate fondu and Pride and Prejudice:) TALKED TO MARK ON SKYPE..it was so fun and he got to meet a lot of kaleo ppl!
Sunday: Was in sunday school for church, was the first person to pray in the prayer room for the 24/7 week of prayer. Went to walmart for toothpaste, and some stuff to fill with my rooms child christmas box, and finished of the night with timmy hos and some fun conversation and music!

Life is going pretty well these days, work is getting done, friendships are becoming closer, the weather is good and bad, I have a whole week to learn about God and hear/talk to him in our 24/7 week of prayer this coming week. Our opening hour I signed up to spend 1 hour with Miranda. It was amazing, she was late because of Church so i got half an hour to myself. It was so amazing, there are pictures on the walls of all the kaleo students, paper and pens to draw and write, nice chairs by the windows overlooking the ocean and just such a great time. I didn't have even enough time to go through 1/4th of the people I need to be praying for. Time goes so fast, it is so amazing how you can become so energetic to pray to the lord and be able to talk to him.

This is going to be quite the experience and know I am praying for all of you!
Thanks for your daily prayers!

My only prayer request I would like you all to focus on this week is my family (Uncle Bruce, Aunt Jan, Ben, Allison, and Donovan) -they lost everything to a forest fire that swept through 40 some houses and campus buildings that my Uncle teaches at. Everything was destroyed. This hit me pretty hard, so just pray for the strength they need for overcoming this horrible situation, and that they will see God out of this terrible occurrence.

As always, Keep smiling

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
       bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart

Proverbs 3:3

So this was the verse in Proverbs that I wrote my paper on. Which I completed yesturday (saturday) ....wow does it feel good to hand in something!

So I'd just like to tell you where I am at right now. I feel that God is challenging me with the topic of Joy. This may seem weird to some of you, because I am such a happy person, but currently I feel that I am questioning why I am, and discovering when I need to work on being joyful...and how sometimes even when I am down to pursue Joy in life in all I do.
So currently I am working on this trait, and it's becoming harder as I become more and more tired. I am getting enough sleep, I am just getting a little tired of the current situation. I love the people here, its just every now and again your own space and family time is really needed. I hope you all understand! So please pray for me!

So on a lighter side here's what I have been up to this week:
Monday- I went caving...which was my first time ever! It was really sweet! I got to climb up a small waterfall, go in small cracks, and see spiders on the roof which i freaked out about! AHHHH! We finished off that dirty day at a pool for 1 hour and a half.
Tuesday-Went down town and talked to the homeless. This was an amazing experience! At first I was really nervous, but it ended up being an amazing time. We had half of the kaleo kids with us, and we separated into three groups and walked around in search of some conversation. That was our ultimate goal to just talk, but we did have some clothes and food in our back packs. We talked to two guys (since a new homeless shelter had just opened), but out on the street we found Black Velvet and one guy that didnt tell his name. It was really great to see them interested in talking to us, and after awhile the more quiter one felt a little more safe around us. It was a sweet time! After that we went home but saw the salmon run, so that was sweet! Kinda weird seeing some dead and some still working their way up stream....nature takes its turn.
Wednesday- Helped Daneille and Eric with chapel, and did a ton of hw. (All night!!)
Thursday- 1 hour of sleep, Camp Ministry class, hw, floor hockey staff vs kaleo for 2 hours they won 21 to 17 or smth like that.
Friday- hw, went to Miranda's youth group because mine was cancelled.
Saturday-Handed in my paper:), helped with the skyscraper, pancakes for supper YAY!, worked out:) and chilled with some mates!
Sunday- Went to church(they didn't need me to help with the kids so I was sad!), had a 2 hour nap, worked out, went to Jer's, Jesse's, Tom's and Aaron's church for youth group
now just writing my blog and chilling.

Prayer requests:
-for more perspective on my part
-to get over this homesickness hump
-For some people in Taiwan
-For my youth group and church
-for satey and accomplishment this reading break

miss you all!

Kaleo Ministry

HeY hEy HEY!

Proverbs 4:23 "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

October of 2008 has come and gone, how scary for time does fly! 1 month and and like 22 days until Christmas...seriously where has this time gone?wow.

Thanks to everyone who has constantly kept me in their prayers and thoughts. Likewise..I am trying to do the same...as I am slowly working on remembering to pray ...I even have a prayer list beside my bed:) so please if you need prayer send me and email or post back and tell me what you want me to pray for!

This week has been nothing but Hermeneutics work and Spiritual formation papers. We had class with Merrill Dyck from Monday until Friday, and I can say I did have a few things stick in my head that I hope to use while trying to interpret the bible for the rest of my life. Very interesting class that's for sure...and man is the bible complex a lot of the time!
So here's what I did this week besides class and hw:
Monday-ultimate Frisbee against old Kaleo students (they came for a week to visit), chapel down by the beach with a camp fire, and scared one of the girls next door...lol it was hilarious:) no she does not hate Miranda and I.
Tuesday- A person came for chapel that has been doing missions trips in Cambodia, I learned a lot from her and got to talk with her for all of lunch. REALLY INTERESTING!
Wednesday-saw some deer:) and worked away at hw
Thursday- Heard some stories from old Kaleo's of where the are at now. God blessed my group by being able to pull together the project and focusing!
Friday- Group project worked really well (puppet show on 2nd Peter -so obviously Deborah made it a bit funny:D) went into Duncan and bought a hand puppet:) i will add pics of him next time:) and ill introduce him then too:)...got stuff for our Christmas child box, that Miranda and I are making.
Saturday- Worked in the Kitchen from 10am until 7:30 pm...I did a ton but had a fun time doing it! between 2-4 I was taking kids off the zip line ..so that was an enjoyable break. Tried to do homework until 3:30 am...didn't work so slept for 2 hours
Sunday- woke up at 5:30 and went into the kitchen to make everyone breakfast, we had a guest group here...so there was A LOT to make:) went to church -helped out with children's church, cleaned room (btw I changed around my room for the third time mom and dad lol its so me:P), did hw, supper and now going to get a London fog, have staff games night/kaleo game night, go back and work on my paper that I so stressed about, and then to bed.

That's my week:)
Youth was cancelled because of Halloween, but I didn't even trick-or-treat anyways:P Just stayed in like a good college student.

Prayer Requests:
1) On Tuesday I am going to go talk to people on the streets of Victoria. I have a few pairs of new socks to give out(cool idea the kaleo students are doing), and a sandwich. I am really nervous, and I just pray God gives me the words that I am supposed to say to these people. It is going to be quite the experience!
2) I am nervous to go caving tomorrow. Apparently we get into a pretty tight squeeze..and there are spiders around:O
3) for friends that are going through some hurts here in Kaleo and in Taiwan.
4) For pastor Ross (old pastor of peace portal)to stay strong
5)For my paper to form. I am really struggling with writing this paper:(
6)Also for my youth group, I didn't get to see them last week (because I was working), this week was cancelled because of halloween, and next week is cancelled too. I just pray that they are doing well and following God. I miss the kids a lot:)

I love you all and wish you all a happy month of November!

Much love,
as always KEEP SMILING

This week:

MONDAY= We heard Jake's testimony at chapel this week. Found our weight room while on a hike around the camp with Miranda. HW HW HW
TUESDAY=Camp Ministry class with Jim Badke. Played some rugby with some guys two hand touch...it's fun seeing people be interested in learning this game, and being able to play with a few people that already know the game:D (BAD NEWS- I gave Jer a cookie that contained raisin's  in the cookie or something to do with raisin's and he had to shave his beard. He is doing a Nazarites vow so I felt pretty bad....but I must tell you people that loose facial hair look so different!) HW HW HW.
WEDNESDAY-HW HW HW HW HW HW HW HW HW HW HW! exercised yet again and then back to the HW! Had a good time laughing with Danielle, Dan, Josh, Tom, Kylie and Jer...and being stupid with Tom with head stands and stealing his laptop after he gave me a wet willy LOL!-(mark i have a brother here keeping me in line and doing your job for you! lol)-
THURSDAY= Helped winterize a S.A.L.T.S ship. Very fun work, cutting down sails, holding sails, carrying tons of things, looking through S.A.L.T.S. lost and found (i got a sword! and more), chilling with our crew from when we had our 5 day adventure and just helping out wherever! Had fireside at Jim Badke's house with 2 other students..we made monster cookies and man were then AWESOME! Went down to the beach with Tom and found the tire swing by the beach, then went to the dock and saw some AWESOME phosphorescence! Then some Dutch Blitz with Phil, Jayme and Jake lol good times:) JAKE WAS A NEWBEE slowing us down:)&HW
FRIDAY- HW, Chapel, HW, met my campers for the weekend retreat (Dayle, Sammi, Ashley, Lindsay, and Julia. Lol a fun bunch of girls...very talkative but so are any 11 year olds! (Didn't get to bed until 1 am!
Saturday- Non-stop camp fun. Singing, dancing, eating, really good group discussions, tons of games, I was working on the zip line at camp (taking the kids off the zip line they were all excited and happy so my position was pretty sweet!), more games (capture the flag guys vs girls with wet sponges)...of course me being loud I got soaked by the guys:P lol, swimming in the wave pool! mug ups and firesides and more late nights filled with questions and some awesome talking!
Sunday- dancing, singing, more  discussion, game (cat vs. mouse...counsellors hide and kids try and find them), cleanup, lunch and the kids were gone after lunch.
It was such a great experience to pray and talk with the kids about God. I just pray that this weekend changed them in some way. They are all in my heart and for having that be my first time every counseling I found it to be quite the experience!

The rest of my Sunday was just filled with hw and exercise and talking to my parents which I needed:)

Thanks so much for reading this everyone!
Hope you have a great week.

Prayer Requests:
-My 5 campers have a great week at school tomorrow, and that they stay on fire for God and that they learned something this weekend.
-Pray for Erin Eric Jono Josie and Kenny
-Could you pray for me as well?! I am missing Taiwan and mostly my family! I really miss mum mark and dad!
-I am making my decision for which missions trip I should do next year...could you pray that I am leaning towards the one that God wants me to be in?
-Also pray for Kaleo, that it is following God and that  we are learning everyday to work with each other and get to know God more.

Again, I miss you all and if you ever wanna call me or send me a letter by snail mail (which would be awesome) or email (which is cool too!) that would be sweet!

Anyone gonna dress up for Halloween? I think I am going to be a ninja since I have a sword!:)

Kaleo Ministy

Hey EVERYBODAY!

I hope everyone had a pleasant week...and that you are all surviving through the daily stress called life! Soo....it's another week...and thus I guess I should give another update:) hope you guy's are enjoying reading these >

Monday: My parents arrived from Taiwan and picked Miranda and I up to go see our house and spend the day driving, talking, eating and chilling. After that, We had an amazing Turkey Dinner at Qwanoes (the campsite that I am at) with staff, kaleo students, and my parents were included. IT WAS SWEET...plus I got to dress up:) yay
Tuesday: I didn't do much, other then hw, hang out with some friends, and have a very supportive time of prayer for chapel.
Wednesday: Had a Camp ministry class with Jim Badke. More hw to keep me busy, and stayed up till 5 am watching Tas play games in Taiwan for IASAS. OH MAN WAS IT GOOD! MISSING TAIWAN!
Thursday: Because I was us so late I was late to chapel but it was all good. This time we heard Jeremiah's testimony. Then we had girl's and guy's night out. So guy's went to Jim's house and did stuff...and girl's went for Indian food, dairy queen and chill at a staff members house for the night.
Friday: Had an amazing breakfast and beach walk at this house. Then went to shop and bought some warmer clothes...yah i guess shorts are more of a Taiwan thing then Canada eh? Youth group was awesome..really getting to know some of the kids..I'm pretty sure I'm well liked now.  We played card games, wii, and had a bible study where I was put in the hot spot- without warning I was told I had to tell two "non believers" -Christians acting- about God for 5 mins because the plane was about to crash. it was hard but apparently I didn't do bad :) Out of that we learned the main vs. that should be recited or talked about when evangelizing. It was a good bible study and I sure learned something!
After youth group my parents picked me up and  we spent an awesome night in the house talking/sitting on my sleeping bag on the wood floor in front of the fire eating:) it was awesome.
Then i spent the rest of the night till 5 am watching TAS win Gold in soccer for boys and Bronze for girls....girls went to penalty kicks MAN WAS IT INTENSE I'm so proud of them!
Saturday-  I spent the day working with my parents organizing and going through old stuff/ memory lane ...it was a good time...i found some amazing pics of the family and friends and when I was little...good times! Kaleo Ministry

Family and Friends, HI!
I trust everyone is doing fine, and had an amazing thanksgiving dinner?! yumm!
I AM THANKFUL FOR
-my parents coming to see me
-being at Kaleo with 26 other wonderful students
-seeing fall again
-and Gods grace!

So...it's been another great week! It was Kaleo 6's "month anniversary" on the 10th as some of us like to call it. lol I can't believe its been a month...seems like I've known these people for ever!
Here's what I did throughout this week:
Monday- English class, kicked around a rugby ball, and changed around my room so I am now sleeping on the floor (I'll have to load a picture next time).
Tuesday-No power so everyone was sleeping past their alarm clock( yet we needed to be ready by 8 to go surfing!)...I voted :) go Stephen Harper!....went to this Goat store that I have gone to 3 times now (there are goats on the roof with grass and people shop underneath in a sweet store!). Watched some massive waves on the coast...ran over a baby raccoon:( (of course my friend Tom made a joke out of the situation and said "Boom HEAD SHOT" grrrrr) Got to Tofino, set up our tent, played some beach soccer (broke my pinky toe by someone kicking way to hard on my foot- i totally had this feeling too that I would break something I hate playing soccer without shoes)...had dinner, a beach night walk, and finished off the day with a camp fire and smores!
Wednesday- Played ultimate Frisbee untill the surfboards were in the car (yes I played :D i couldn't help it -hobbled and all!) Surfed 5 mins away from our camp site...and it was amazing...I am now hooked on surfing! Thank goodness we had full body suits though..it was cold water on the face but everything else was fine:)...had some more beach walks, dessert by the fire, jumped on a girl in our tent that was sleeping, told jokes and sang songs:) good times!
Thursday-Woke up early and put on cold wet bathing suits and wet suits OH MAN IT WAS COLD FOR ME!...got an amazing surf where i rode it all the way in! fun ride back and went to bed early.
Friday- Back at Kaleo had 1 Camp ministry class. Lots of people left for thanksgiving break. Went to youth and had a games night....man were the kids hyper...I LOVE THEM!
Saturday- Only 5 of us were left behind at Kaleo so we spent time talking, telling stories, cutting Josh's hair haah oh man!, taking stupid pics, shoving dinner cake into Phil's face, doing dishes, and piling 3 more people on top of us 5 into a car and driving to Jim's house! I WAS DOING THE DRIVING hahahah SO MUCH FUN!...we had people on the roof and all (don't worry Gramma it was like 2 mins away from Camp). HAHHAAH OH MAN!:) At Jim's house the 8 of us watch a movie with his family and each yummy home made apple pie WOOT!
Sunday-I taught Sunday school which was really fun, yet a little disheartening. I really wish some of the Sunday school books parents use to teach were written more excitedly and closer to their age level where they can be excited to learn! After church I spent my time bonding with some girls and then bonding with some homework. There was a Disney night movie marathon so there ended up being 4 movies in one night (I only watched 3 hahaha).

That was my week.
I love it here and I thank you all for your constant prayers.
Please pray for my church, I can see opportunities for a younger generation to lead the church, yet there are still so many restrictions.
Please pray for the youth, that I can learn to lead them in a way that God wants me to. That through Ben's and my actions they can see Christ.
Please pray for my friend Kenny, and also pray for a Kaleo student named Erin. There has been an occurrence that is affecting people she cares about at home and her here.

I love you all!
Gramma and Grampa- I AM WORKING lol school is not just playing:)
My parents are to come in a few hours!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
much love
and as always, Keep smiling!

Kaleo Ministry

Another week has come and gone. I know some of you are thinking "Finally the girl has actually started working". Yup, that's right, we  had our first class/course of the year. It was called spiritual formation with Dr. Marv Penner
He was such an amazing teacher...and I learned so much from our discussions in class, my many questions, and the times when he sent us out to find a place of solitude.
I don't really know what I should tell  you about the class. We learned a lot about prayer, meditation, scripture memorisation, friendships, sin, relationships and so much more.
The verse I memorized for him was James 1:5,6
"For any of you who lacks wisdom, ask God for he gives generously to all those without finding fault, it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, for if he doubts he is like a wave in the ocean tossed and blown by the wind."
As apart of class we had to lead worship in our groups provided for us. Everything went really smoothly for each group and at times was really deep on what was being said. It was really enjoyable to see students lead worship, and lead in talking. Friday we had 2 hours of solitude to talk to God, write in a journal, read the bible, and listen to music, and after that we partook in communion.

Besides the awesome week of school I have also been having a lot of fun with everyone here- wow I bet you wouldn't have guessed that eh?- hahaha
Here are a few things I did this week
Monday-dressed up  with Kylie to prove to 2 guys that I owned a dress and I did dress up from time to time...also had an amazing time of worship, scripture reading and a testimony with Just the Kaleo students Monday night. We sang songs so late into the night!
Tuesday-Played some volleyball, and then got owned in a sand fight with Tom...basically I was the stubborn sister who couldn't let her "big brother tom" beat her down without getting him back....unfortunately I got COVERED in sand. Also had an amazing time with three kitchen staff at their house with Ryan and Paul doing "fireside". Its when Kaleo students are invited over to Staff's house for a time of eating, talking, and community! We had CHOCOLATE FONDU! yummm and everything possible to dip it in.
Wednesday-Had dish pit duty-I actually like doing dish pit...kinda fun (just wait for a few more weeks then ill be tired of it I'm sure)...made our extra bunk bed into a couch at the bottom...so now we can crash any time without having to climb our latter to our bed....and went down to the dock and chilled with a bunch of friends. Miranda and I stayed behind and almost got eaten by something with big yellow sly eyes.....We screamed our heads off!
Thursday-Soccer training by myself, and went into Duncan and bought a small C.D. player YAY!
Friday- Played soccer in Q-town until 1 in the morning. I was way to into it:)
Sat- Called my bro, went to Qwanoes Road Tour with my youth group. This is an event that basically brings Kids from the summer together to have some more "summer like fun" throughout the school year-worshiping God, playing games, listening to talking and such-.
It was really fun to hang out with my kids, play silly games, and dance with the crowd. I really enjoy seeing them, getting the numerous amounts of hugs, and seeing how pumped up and energetic they are!
Besides having a good time with them in Victoria (for this event), our power was out at Qwanoes and all over Crofton, so of course we played night games and once everyone was in their room...Miranda and I go into each girls room and scare all the ladies with a scary mask I put on. IT WAS AWESOME! lol. So for 2 hours Miranda Leila and I are all laughing in our room about peoples reactions and just being weird with our head lamps and the darkness!
Sunday- Another day at church. I must say I am praying for the Lord to keep me back. I had a good talk with one of the Staff members who used to go to Ladysmith (my church) and we both broke out in frustration. I am doing everything to hold my tongue...I just feel as if this church will die once the older generation has passed on. I know that sounds horrible, but the way they are feeding their young people is not strong nourishment at all. I pray to God that this will be a time of change, and the Older generation will open their eyes to the young!
Besides that, I really enjoy the older couple that drive us to church...they are in a way "upbeat" and they think I am funny for some reason-they said I was a rebel- haha is it true?
I worked on a paper for Camp Ministry all day, and still hate it! The paper is not my thing, and I am helping edit others, I can just not form my opinion into educational paper. After many frustrating hours, and motivation from Jon and Jer, I played some music and enjoyed the company of my roomies laughing away the stress.

I guess I should stop talking now...I always say to much! There's just so much to tell you all, and this way I don't have to write massive individual emails! lol!
Life is amazing, and I'M SO BLESSED TO BE HERE!
Please pray for my church, for unity and openness.
Please pray for a friend, who is having family struggles.

Thanks for reading again, and keeping me in your thoughts!
I love you all, and where ever you are throughout the world
KEEP SMILING!

FISH---deb
P.S.- I just finally  figured out how I can tansferr Items to put pics up here

Ill have to add some more next time:)
